April 6th has officially became a holiday for some of us. The ITTF has established a World Table Tennis Day. The idea behind this day is to “gather Table Tennis enthusiasts, attract people who don’t usually play Table Tennis, promote the love for our sport and ideally engage new players to the practice in the long term”, says the ITTF President Thomas Weikert. In order to make Table Tennis more accessible to everyone, ITTF Development Program has found a new approach by developing a Table Tennis Program for ALL. Its aim is to make our sport more POPULAR, UNIVERSAL AND INCLUSIVE. This program includes the establishment of the World Table Tennis Day. What better way to celebrate a sport that encourages different types of people in terms of age, gender, social status, culture and physical ability to play and have fun, than a date chosen by the United Nations and the International Olympic Committee as the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace. The day was celebrated in numerous cities throughout the world, where various events were hosted in an attempt to involve people, and they all had one common theme: Table Tennis for Everyone, Everywhere!
We, at Killerspin, are great supporters of the idea that table tennis is not all about competition. It is a tool for social inclusion, a great way to spend some quality time with your family and friends, a healthy use of free time! So, be creative, organize a group of friends, your family, co-workers, grab the paddles and make every day your Table Tennis Day! Use every day to #UnPlugNPlay!
