Recipe for a memorable Christmas

December 21, 2016 by admin

Hey everyone, Christmas came so fast this year, or is it just me? :) I can’t believe that we are just a few days away from everyone’s favorite holiday. If you ask me, Christmas brings back great memories. For my family it’s a time where we all gather at Grandma’s house and have a beautiful meal. She always cooks amazing meals and has the best desserts. I don’t know what you will cook for dinner, but I think that we all like that special cake or cookies that we bake specially for Christmas. In my family, it is definitely gingerbread.  So if you are planning to have friends for dinner, or want to have intimate meal with your loved ones, then you need to know how to make a good gingerbread.

Let's break down this whole process into easy pieces. Let's talk about ingredients, preparation — the whole shebang. Here's a step-by-step recipe that will help you make a gingerbread that is everything you ever dreamed it could be.

All you need is:

3 cups  all-purpose flour

1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder

3⁄4 teaspoon baking soda

1⁄4 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon ground ginger

1 3⁄4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1⁄4 teaspoon ground cloves

6 tablespoons unsalted butter

3⁄4 cup dark brown sugar

1 large egg

1⁄2 cup molasses

2 teaspoons vanilla

1 teaspoon finely grated lemon zest (optional)

Sift together the flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cloves, ginger and cinnamon in the bowl of a food processor. Add the butter and blend until the mix resembles breadcrumbs, then mix in the sugar.

Lightly beat the egg, vanilla, lemon zest and molasses together in a separate bowl, add to the food processor and pulse until the mixture clumps together. Tip the dough out, knead briefly until smooth, wrap it and leave to chill in the fridge for 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking trays with parchment.

Roll the dough out to a ¼in thickness on a lightly floured surface. Using cutters, cut out the gingerbread men shapes and place on the baking tray, leaving a gap between them.

Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until lightly golden-brown. Leave on the tray for 10 minutes and then move to a wire rack to finish cooling. When cooled decorate with icing and other decorations.

Easy, don't you think? :)

The most important ingredient to a perfect gingerbread is you! If you are making it with love and for the ones you love, then your gingerbread will taste delicious!

After dinner there is always time for some games, TV shows or funny family stories. Here is an idea to spend a lovely evening with everyone and still burn some calories from that tasty meal that you had. :)
