2009 Killerspin SPINvitational Event Report

The Killerspin SPINvitational is one of the World's Premier Table Tennis Invitational Events. The SPINvitational is regularly shown to domestic and global audiences via Killerspin's broadcast partners.

The 2009 SPINvitational featured many of the world's elite table tennis athletes playing an innovative new format called "41".

"41" features a one game match to 41 points divided into four quarters like football and basketball. The "41" Teams adds a Tag Team feature to the sport which allows for substitutions. See "41" rules: 41 rules-singles, 41 rules - Teams)

Biometric measurements were added to this year's SPINvitational. Players were outfitted with heart rate monitors during their matches.

World and Olympic Champion Chen Qi dominated a field of elite Table Tennis athletes at the 2009 Killerspin SPINvitational winning both the Men's Singles and Tag Team events. Chen Qi was also last year's SPINvitational Champion. Chen Qi overcame Korea's Joo Se Hyuk to win the singles title in one of the most dramatic contests of the night. Chen Qi remains undefeated on American soil.

Other SPINvitational Highlights
Joo Se Hyuk overcame a 14 point 3rd quarter deficit to defeat China's Xu Hui (Xu was Chen Qi's partner in the Tag Team event) in what was one of the most exciting matches in modern history.

Biba and Gina Pota were Women's "41" Tag Team Champions.

Cadet Charles Deng won both the Cadet Championship and the Handicap event.
